HOW TO REACH GIANNA'S B & B
1. From Florence airport (Peretola)
Either take a taxi directly to Gianna's
(approx. cost is €20.00) or take the local bus n°
55 (tickets cost €4.00 and can be bought from the driver) to the SITA bus station behind the railway station. Turn
left out of the bus station and cross over Via Alamanni and up the steps into the railway station.
For bus times see www.ataf.net - as of February 2007 the 55 leaves Florence-Peretola Airport at 7.30, 10.00, 12.30,
15.00, 18.30 and 23.30. Journey takes b/w 15 and 25 minutes depending on traffic.
2. From Pisa airport
Catch a train directly from the airport
(for times see www.trenitalia.com )
or, exiting the airport building from the door opposite the arrivals gate (i.e. straight in front of you as you leave the
luggage-collection and customs area) catch the local bus to Pisa railway station (Pisa Centrale) and then take a
train for Florence. Bus tickets can be bought from the shop selling newspapers and cigarettes (identifiable by the T sign)
near the departure lounge or directly from the bus driver.
3. From Firenze SMN railway station
Either catch a taxi, walk or catch a bus.
Directions for walking- with your back to the train tracks turn left out of the station.
Cross the two parallel roads
and then turn right. Turn left at the corner (Largo Alinari which becomes Via Nazionale). Turn right into Via Guelfa at
the first set of traffic lights you come to (usually either flashing yellow or turned off) and then the second street
on your left is Via S. Reparata. Cross over Via XXVII Aprile and Gianna's B & B is
at number 69 on the left-hand side.
Taxi-rank – turn right past the chemist's inside the station concourse.
Bus - take a 7, 10, 31, 32 or a 33 from the station (the stops are along the inner road that one
crosses when leaving
the station). At present the 7, 10, 31 and 32 go down Via Panzani, then pass the Baptistry and turn left into Via
Cavour and then right into Piazza San Marco where you get off. To reach Gianna's you walk down Via degli Arazzieri
(looking at the church you exit the Piazza on the left) and Via S. Reparata is the second street on your right.
Bus 33 comes via the Fortress and you get off at the fourth stop called "XXVII Aprile". Via S. Reparata is the first
street on your left.
4. From Firenze Campo Marte station
Either catch a taxi or a bus. The bus-stop is opposite the station entrance, slightly
to the right as you exit the station; buy tickets before leaving the station.
Bus number 33 - get off at stop 31 (the second stop in Via Cavour -
Via Cavour being the street the bus goes down after curcum-navigating Piazza Libertà (easily identifiable because all
the buildings are painted a pink-red and have porticoes) and turn right into Via Salvestrina:
Via S. Reparata is the second street on your left.
Bus number 12 - get off at the first stop in Via S. Caterina d'Alessandria
(the same route as the 33 until Piazza Libertà where the 12 goes down Via Lorenzo il Magnifico,
then turns left at the traffic lights and crosses over the Viale into Via S. Caterina).
Turn down Via delle Ruote, the first street on your left and Via S. Reparata is the second street on your right.
5. By car
(a) from the South - exit the A1 motorway at FIRENZE SUD and, at the end of the road linking the motorway to the
urban road network (slow down at the flashing lights), turn LEFT. Stay on this road, the "Lungarno", so called because
it runs next to the Arno river, until it curves right and becomes the ring-road which runs around the city centre (the Viali).
Keep to the Viali (you will pass a city gate standing in splendid isolation and the English cemetery) until you get to
Piazza Libertà (easily recognizable because the buildings are all the same pinkish hue and all have porticoes). Go around
a little less than half the piazza and exit down Via Lorenzo Magnifico. Turn left at the lights. At the next set of
lights (about 80 metres further down) you have to cross the Viale and then turn right into Via Santa Caterina d'Alessandria.
Then take the first street on the left (Via delle Ruote) and Via S. Reparata is the second on your right.
(b) from the North - exit the A1 motorway at FIRENZE NORD and follow the signs for "Firenze centro". Once on the
Viali try to keep to the right if possible, especially after passing under the railway bridge, so you can enter
Viale Spartaco Lavagnini with nerves relatively intact. Turn right into Via Caterina d'Alessandria just before the
traffic lights.
